Software Engineer
Mariana Alper is a Software Engineer in Nordstrom working in the Navigation Service and Experience team. Before transitioning into tech, Mariana completed a Masters degree in Applied Mathematics at CIMAT in Guanajuato, Mexico. Afterward, she was an adjunct professor of mathematics at her former college Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniaría in Bogotá, Colombia. Mariana moved to the United States two years ago. During the next six months, Mariana learned English and taught herself how to program while waiting for approval of her work permit. She then completed a year-long training program at Ada Developers Academy for women and gender diverse people whose vision to diversify the tech industry. Mariana is interested in sharing her perspectives as an immigrant in tech and as a person that changed careers. Unfortunately, only 2% percent of Latina women work in STEAM, and Mariana truly believes it is possible to drastically increase our representation.
