Digital Transformation Cloudy with a Chance of DevOps - What’s Now, What’s Next - Featuring VMware @ ATLAS Workbase - 500 Mercer St
In recent years, cloud, data analytics, and other advanced technologies have allowed companies to fundamentally alter their means of doing business.  Product companies want to offer services, financial companies want to become software companies, and every company wants to use data to personalize products/services for their consumers.  The underpinnings for this transformation are the seamless release of multiple features into production on a daily basis.  Embedding an "app-store" mentality into organizations which typically take a long time to perfect production environments and applications.  In this session, the providers of cloud services (Microsoft and Amazon) offer insight into market strategy and economics.  Application run-time and frameworks will be covered from the perspective of Kubernetes and containers.  We will also review the program aspects of driving a successful transformation.  Learn how you, your company, and your customers can be better prepared to navigate the environment in which cloudy with a chance of devops is the new norm.

It can solve a problem in your field with an outsider’s perspective. During this session, each participant will have time for an introduction and a chance to discuss their most pressing pain point, project or idea in a safe and empowering environment. Your CO-STORM partners will brainstorm with you on solutions and positive changes.

This session includes an incredible group of mentors, ready to give back by sharing their experience and expertise.

Disruptive Vision: People Over Profits @ Capital One - 501 Eastlake Ave E
Limited Capacity seats available

When people think of business cases and products, they traditionally focus on direct profits - often at the expense of customers. But this short-sighted approach creates an adversarial dynamic that benefits no one. “People over profits” has become the battle cry of the disruptor – and it works. If you prioritize customers in the short-term, with an eye on keeping costs low, you create a win-win partnership in the long-term. We'll explain why this credo makes sense, using a mix of theory and real world examples. Then we’ll work with you to develop your own People over Profits vision and give you the tools to make it happen at your workplace.

It’s Not Them, It’s You: Why Your Team Members are Breaking up with You and What You Can Do about It @ATLAS Workbase - 500 Mercer St
Studies tell us that about 50% of people leave their companies to get away from their manager. Clearly those people were in toxic relationships – but that’s them, not you... right? Actually these same statistics tell us there’s a 50% probability that someone who left your team did so because of you.

Employee engagement and loyalty can’t be bought with a great salary or benefits, but there is something that smart managers can do to make the relationship work.

This hands-on, interactive workshop takes a seriously FUN approach to developing leadership skills. During the two-hour session, participants will be invited to solve the puzzles of creating a positive environment where employees can feel supported and successful, and where you’ll learn to be the best boss you can be!

If you’re a leader, or aspire to be one someday, you need to be part of this workshop. Laura and Kirsten will show you what you can do to inspire loyalty and retain your staff.

Changing The Game: Increasing The Representation of Women In Games And Digital Media - Featuring Chef @ATLAS Workbase - 500 Mercer St
Does increasing representation in video games result in changes to how games are made? A lack of diversity in video games has historically been a problem in the industry, but one that development teams are increasingly willing to address. Join a panel of decision makers and creators as they discuss the steps they’ve taken to shift towards better diversity in their games and how that shift has been received by their fanbase.  We’ll explore whether their approaches to hiring, narrative and visual design, and community interaction have changed, and discuss any community support - or backlash - that has occurred as a result of the changes.

Engineer to Leader: Navigating the Uncharted @Capital One - 501 Eastlake Ave E, Ste 500
Limited Capacity seats available

Over the past decade engineers have found their roles evolving to be more high profile and mission critical. The role of engineering leader can vary dramatically from company to company, industry to industry as can the path toward leadership. Sometimes planned but more often forced due to a gap or sudden growth, engineers can find themselves in a leadership role for which they have little or no training. During the session’s first hour four engineering leaders will share their personal journeys of transitioning from engineer to leadership. The group will discuss strategies to navigate this critical role and tools to make engineering leaders successful, which in turn leads to happy, high performing teams. During the second hour we’ll break up into small groups to share personal stories, ask questions and get feedback from the panel participants.
